CHAPTER 2 - En Familia

Lesson A:

In this chapter you will review again the "Present Progressive" on Vocabulario II - Verbo Estar + Present Participle (gerund). You probably remember this well from Spanish II - check the links on the Spanish II Blog. And check these G&V pages to review: G&V page 20 and G&V page 21. Also review/study the "Estructura" on page 63. Suggestion: review Verbos estar, ser, tener and llevar (and all the present tense of verbos -AR, -ER and -IR including regular and irregular verbs).

Find verbs in this chapter and challenge yourselves to see if you remember how to conjugate them in the present tense, i.e. sacar, querer, poner, conocer, vivir, preferir, etc. (some are stem-changing verbs, recognize which ones?). Also review the "question words" (cómo, quién, dónde, qué, por qué, etc.).

You should review "family members" (La Familia) in Spanish, and do exercise No. 2 on page 51. Also, "Palabras afirmativas y negativas" on page 54, and affirmative and negative expressions on page 55 ("Estructura") are very important in this lesson (write them in your notebooks or photocopy the "Repaso rápido" and paste it). Work on exercise No. 7 on that page and review G&V page 18.

"Complementos Directos" on page 62 and exercise No. 18 are also important. You cannot forget the Direct Object Pronouns (DOP's). You can check some of the links on the Spanish I Blog.

You will also learn the "impersonal use of se." Check: G&V page 22. Also check page 66 in your textbook.

Lesson B:

Morning routines are covered in this lesson. You must remember the Reflexive Pronouns (first song) - ME TE SE NOS OS SE and how to use them with the reflexive verbs mentioned (pintarse, secarse, lavarse, and the others mentioned in the "Extra" box on page 71). Check the "Estructura" on page 74 on reflexive verbs and proper constructions. Remember: you can attach pronouns to the end of infinitives and gerunds. Examples: Él se está vistiendo - Él está vistiéndose. Work on exercise No. 7, page 74 to practice, and Nos. 8 and 10 on page 75. Also check the G&V page 24 here and G&V page 25 here.

For "Other reflexive constructions," check page 76 and exercise No. 11; and for "Acciones recíprocas" page 78 and exercises No. 15 on this page and 16 (on page 79). Check: G&V page 26 and G&V page 27 here.

In Vocabulario II you will learn about chores (quehaceres). On page 84 you will review the Imperative Mood (Mandatos Informales Afirmativos). Review the "Estructura" carefully! You should have this information in your notebooks. Check: G&V page 30.

And finally, the prepositions of place on page 87 and G&V page 31, and G&V page 32.Quizlet here: PofP and other sites here PofP2 and PofP3.

¡Buena suerte! y ¡saludes!
